If you already have a partner, congrats! You’ve defied the odds and defeated the system. When you discover someone, the problems don’t usually end there. You may be at the beginning of your relationship or have been together for a few years, but how can you know whether or not you are in the right relationship for you? A part of deciding if you are in the right relationship is considering if you are with the right person. Some of the signs to look out for when determining if you are in the right relationship include:
1.) You don’t resent each other.
Ruminating and hanging onto resentments is not acceptable in a relationship, even if a disagreement occurs occasionally. In most cases, people who cannot let go of previous traumas are incapable of maintaining healthy relationships because they will eventually find reasons to be angry with their partner. However, with time and forgiveness, healthy people can let go of such wounds. In any good relationship, forgiving is essential; refusing to forgive is the same as refusing love. If you and your spouse are both capable of letting go of old grudges and forgiving one other with an open heart, you are in the proper relationship.
2.) You maintain your individuality.
People in a contented and joyful love relationship know their own identities and what they want from life. Without knowing these things, it would be difficult to determine whether or not you are with the proper person because you do not even know yourself well enough to pose the question in the first place. The appropriate person for you will be someone you already know you want and need in your life, who compliments your personality and expectations, and who adds to your life in the areas that you value the most, according to you. If you fully understand yourself and your requirements, you will probably also understand the type of person you most desire.
3.) You don’t envy other relationships.
When people envision themselves in other relationships that are more fulfilling, they are usually dissatisfied with one or more aspects of their existing relationship.
