Anxiety disorders are more common than you think. Anxiety and Depression Association of America states that 40 million adults experience anxiety disorders every year which is equal to 18.1% of the total American population. But the good news is that they are highly treatable.

Anxiety is a universal phenomenon that’s experienced by all of us during various stages of life. You may feel like the world is about to end, but in reality, it’s all in our minds. Sometimes, you may even feel anxious for no reason at all.

It is actually the result of a fight or flight response which is activated when our brains feel that we’re in danger. This sensation only occurs for a short amount of time before we settle down and everything returns to normal.

Common anxiety symptoms

Common anxiety symptoms include palpitations, trouble breathing, and sleeping, as well as excessive sweating and dizziness. If you feel any of these associated symptoms, do not freak out. Calm your nerves by taking long deep breathes, distracting your mind with other activities, and discussing the source of your fears and concerns with a loved one. Jotting down your thoughts on a piece of paper has proved to be extremely helpful as well.
