It is possible to develop narcissistic relationships if one or both partners are dealing with the symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder. Those who have narcissistic personality disorder believe that they are superior to others and have little concern for other people’s feelings, among other characteristics. However, beneath this façade of extreme self-assurance is a fragile sense of self that is sensitive to the slightest criticism. We live in a world that is becoming increasingly egotistical. While narcissism is a disorder that people can be diagnosed with, the word is used loosely by people to refer to selfish partners.

It is possible to detect and reflect on the unconscious reasons that caused you to pick a spouse with narcissistic tendencies if you find yourself in a narcissism-based relationship. Did you grow up with a self-absorbed parent? Are you more at ease when your spouse is in command, allowing you to be more passive in your role as the observer? Does being with someone well-known give you a sense of self-worth?
