Polyamory sometimes referred to as consensual non-monogamy, appears to be gaining popularity among young people. Yet, it’s difficult to determine how much this is due to increasing awareness without exact data. Polyamory has various shapes and forms. It ranges from open partnerships where you “cheat” on your spouse, but they are aware of it and do not object, and they do the same to you. There is also solo polyamory when you identify as polyamorous but are not actively involved in many relationships.

Polyamory describes people involved in numerous romantic relationships at the same time. At the same time, polyamorous persons have several loving, meaningful, and personal relationships with different people. Polyamory is an open or non-monogamic relationship that adheres to a set of rules and regulations.

However, while polyamory is becoming more mainstream, there is still a lack of public information about what polyamory is, leading to people believing misconceptions about polyamorous individuals that are typically hypersexualized. While polyamory is associated with sex, it is also associated with intimacy, sexual identity, and sexual expression, often overlooked by those unfamiliar with polyamory. For those contemplating polyamory, be prepared to come across people who do not entirely comprehend the concept and oversexualize it, as well as persons who do not understand polyamory…
