Procrastination, is it a disorder or just a personality trait?
Procrastination is the act of systematically delaying tasks that we need to complete. It is also called the “art” of delaying tasks. It is a problem with self-regulation and temporal organization. This type of disorder causes us to trick ourselves with excuses for not doing these tasks right away and delaying them.
But don’t worry; it is more common than we think. According to multiple studies, 95% of people fall into it once or twice. It affects not only us, but also our family members and friends.
Who is affected by procrastination?
Everyone procrastinates some activities at some point in their lives, but it is important to avoid this habit.
One of the most common personalities to resort to this habit is the perfectionist. Although they will not stop doing something until it is done, these actions can create a lot of pressure. Therefore, they may stop doing pending tasks just to avoid this situation.
On the other hand, some people worry about what their co-workers or fellow students will say. Thus, the fear of failure or not meeting expectations will cause them to abandon their goals and give them excuses such as “I don’t have time”.
