The importance of carbohydrates in our diets

Carbohydrate in the human body is like gasoline in an engine. Our body constantly needs energy for any exercise, and carbohydrates are ideal for providing this bolt of boost we need to get moving every day.

Unfortunately, ketogenic and protein-rich diets have become commonplace, which means that many people do not consume enough carbohydrates and their bodies rely on protein and fats as their main sources of energy. Insufficient dietary carbohydrate intake can lead to physical dysfunction, and over time they experience problems with digestion, metabolism and fatigue.

It depends on the type, gender, age, genetics, lifestyle, etc. We should take 45% to 65% of total daily calories from carbohydrates. Before explaining their importance, we should know that not all carbohydrates are the same. The best ones are those with high fiber content, such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

These types of carbohydrates take longer to break down into glucose, so the insulin spike is not high and they also provide more nutrients. In contrast, simple carbohydrates are easier to digest because of their simple structure, but they provide high insulin spikes and are also industrially processed, so they lose much of their nutritional value and are easy to convert into fatty foods.
