What is the Zero Waste movement?
Breakfast with milk cartons, sandwich bread, energy bars for snacks, even fruit is wrapped in plastic.
We often buy these products, even though their packaging will harm the planet, but they are still available in most supermarkets. Is it possible to reduce or even eliminate the waste we generate? According to the Zero Waste campaign, the answer is yes. It all starts with the choices we make when we buy and consume.
The method for defining Zero Waste is simple. It is a movement, a philosophy, and a way of life so that we can avoid waste as much as possible. It is based on a series of tips and suggestions that can be applied to our lifestyle, which can significantly reduce environmental waste.
For this movement to be meaningful and achieve the goal of zero waste, it is important to implement three types of changes at different levels:
- Personal change: Each of us must be aware of the material and energy consumption that each of our actions produces, and reconsider our consumption patterns.
- Social change: We should not only start doing things at home, but we should also take them to our workplaces and schools. Environmental education is one of the most important pillars for us to continue enjoying our planet.
- Structural changes: For the plan to be successful support must be given at the administrative level and convenience must be provided to citizens and large companies and public institutions to take these measures.
